Ma Boussole est Ma Valeur: A Spiritual Manifesto

There are moments in life when someone names something you’ve always known—so clearly, so powerfully—that it never leaves you.

Last summer, while traveling alone in France, I found myself sitting across from a woman named Fabienne—someone I had just met, yet instantly felt known by. We were speaking in French, the kind of soft, late-night conversation that happens when wine, trust, and emotion pool in the same space.

I told her about a relational wound I was carrying. About what it feels like to be labeled “closed” when you’ve actually built yourself a life based on sensitivity, discernment, and deep inner work. I told her about the pain of being misunderstood by people who speak in spiritual language but rarely stop to really witness another person’s becoming.

She looked at me—fiercely, lovingly, fully—and said:

Sabrina, Ma boussole est ma valeur.

I knew exactly what she meant. In English, you might translate it as “My compass is my value”—but it doesn’t hold the same weight. In French, valeur isn’t about usefulness or what you offer to others. It’s about your essence. Your sovereignty. Your soul’s attunement.

She was telling me: Don’t bend. Don’t apologize. Your way of seeing, feeling, moving—it is not wrong. It is your gold.

This morning, after a long and layered conversation about family, spirituality, and how I “show up,” I came home buzzing with emotion. My nervous system was unsettled. I realized I felt misunderstood, and I needed something to anchor me back to my truth.

    This manifesto is that anchor.
    It’s a declaration. A soft shield. A homecoming.
It is my compass, written down.

I offer it here not only as my own protection, but also in case you—yes, you—might want to use it as a template. Or write your own. Your boundaries are not bitterness. Your discernment is not condemnation. And your healing is not up for public interpretation.

    My Self-Truth Manifesto

    I do not perform harmony.
    I honor authentic above appearance.
Caring for my nervous system is not forsaking anything.
Caring for my nervous system is caring for me.
Caring for my nervous system is how I bring peace to myself, and to the world.

I tell the truth even when it’s inconvenient.
    My boundaries are not grudges.
They are the architecture of a life I choose to live inside, based on what I deserve.

I am not closed. I am protective.
    I know the difference.
My heart stays open to those who handle it with care.
Distance is not hatred or self-righteousness—it is discernment.

I am not obligated to offer love in the shape others prefer.
    I do not owe access.
    I do not owe participation.
    I do not owe accommodation.
I am not cheating myself of spiritual growth.
    This is the spiritual growth.

I can welcome perspective without severing myself from my heart.
I can stay open without dissolving, without abandoning.
I can be shaped by experience and still trust my compass as my primary source of navigation.

    My path is sacred.
I have walked through fire to arrive here.
I do not need to be fixed—only witnessed as I am.
    I am love.
I am open, in what open means to me.
My interpretation of openness is one that honors my soul.

I will not distort my compass’s navigation to ease the discomfort of others.
I will not change just to appease.
To call my healing stubborn is to misunderstand:
My healing is a sovereignty to be celebrated.
No one can take it from me or redefine it to their liking.

    I trust myself.
    Even when I feel alone.
    Even when I am misunderstood.
Even when only I can see the truth of my becoming.

This is what growth looks like.
It is sometimes quiet, sometimes disruptive.
    Always holy.
    Always mine—
and somehow, recycled as an offering,
part of you, part of everything.

    If you’re reading this…

And your nervous system has ever been pushed aside in the name of “keeping the peace”—
If your sensitivity has ever been mislabeled—
If you’ve ever been told your spiritual growth would be more complete if only you were more forgiving, more open, more like them

Then this is for you, too.
Your compass is your soul’s sovereignty.
    Ma boussole est ma valeur.

Write it down. Whisper it back. Paint it on a wall if you need to.
Let it protect you, as it has protected me.
